Cause

Cause

Neck pain may develop gradually or instantly depending on the contributing factor:
Slow Contributors of Neck Pain
Fast Contributors of Neck Pain
Posture
Whiplash (i.e MVA, tackle, fall)
Poor sleeping habits
Muscle strains
Stress / Anxiety
Traumatic shoulder injuries
Osteoarthritis
Neck injuries experienced by sports persons commonly result from fast contributors, whereas members of the general public typically present with a slow progressing contributor to neck pain.

Poor pillow support is also a major contributor to neck aches, stiffness and tightness. Disc related neck injuries can be severe and may cause you to experience nerve related symptoms such as pins and needles, numbness and tingling into your arms and hands.

What To Expect Without Treatment

Depending on the cause of your headache, your headache may subside or may persist. If your headache is driven by dehydration or sinus issues, it is likely that water consumption and cleansing of sinus’ will reduce the amount of tension experienced.

However, if your persistent headache is due to poor posture or a whiplash injury, it is unlikely that it will resolve unless the nerves, joints and muscles are relieved of tension.

It is important that you tell your Chiropractor or Medical Doctor if you have recently experienced a concussion in any sporting or non-sporting related activity.

Headaches can be irritating and can affect all aspects of our lifestyle from quality of sleep, focus and concentration at work and ability to enjoy quality time with family and friends.
